About Your Library
We have been using the Infiniti library management system and LibPaths since 2014 (I think!). We have two libraries at Highgate School, one for Junior School (Y4-6) and one for Senior School (Y7-13) who both use Infiniti. We focus on reading for pleasure throughout pupils’ time at school, as well as supporting curricular and extra-curricular interests through our non-fiction collections.
Why You Chose Infiniti LMS
We chose Infiniti as we already had a great relationship with PSP, and knew their customer focus and support would carry through with our LMS. We loved the design and how easy it is to use, as well as the extra features that allow us to curate and showcase various collections on the OPAC.
Impact on Day-to-Day Library Work
Infiniti is incredibly easy and intuitive to use, making tasks like cataloguing and running reports seamless. It also has a “circulation only” profile, which means we have been able to set up pupil librarians to look after issuing and returns during their shifts at break and lunchtimes without having to give them admin access to back-end features.
Impact on Students and Staff
Staff and pupils can search by title, author, genre or subject, which really helps to widen their reading and appreciation of the collection. We have library inductions for Y7 every September, and it’s great to see their excitement and proficiency at using the catalogue after only one lesson. We also have SSO, which means staff and pupils can make their own lists and reservations, and check on what they have out in their accounts.
Favourite Features
LibPaths virtual learning portals. We pay a little extra for this feature as we don’t have a lot of physical display space in our library. LibPaths allows us to curate and theme different topics throughout the year and signpost some of the great books that might otherwise get lost on the shelves. We can also link to other resources, such as e-resources, podcasts, online links, etc.
Advice to Other School Libraries
As soon as we saw how great the Infiniti system looked and all the different things we could easily do with it, we saw immediately how well it would fit into our workflows and how useful it would be. It also integrates really well with e-book and audiobook platforms. We have ePlatform by Wheelers and pupils can search that at the same time as searching the physical collection.
